Traditional kitchens

A traditional kitchen design typically features warm, welcoming colours and less contrasting materials.

Traditional kitchens often include ornamental details, such as cornices or decorative handles.

The layout is symmetrical and centred around a focal point, such as a large kitchen island or a range cooker.

Features of the traditional-style kitchens:

Doors and drawers
Moulded panels, also with frames around openings. Overhead cupboard doors can be glazed. Display units, including open cabiners, are a frequent design element.

Colours and finishes
Neutral or natural colours with matt or satin finish. The cabinets are painted in a single colour, without accents. Darker colours may be used if a more antique look is desired.

Handles
An important element of the style, designed to stand out. Usually made of brass, bronze or copper and often with an antique finish.

Worktops
Granite worktops are popular choices to complement the traditional look of the kitchen.

Modern kitchens

Modern kitchen design tends to feature clean lines and a less decorative aesthetic than traditional-style designs.

Materials such as stainless steel, concrete or glass are often used to complement the design.

The layout is often open and uncluttered, with an emphasis on functionality and efficiency.

Features of the modern-style kitchens:

Doors and drawers
Plain fronts with no decorative elements. Both open and glazed displays can be used. Independent or suspended shelving is a common feature.

Colours and finishes
Neutral and natural colours are typical, but more vivid tones can also be used. Matt or satin finishes, but glossy elements can be added to create contrast.

Handles
Simple and elegant, often integrated into the door or drawer.

Worktops
Artificial stone worktops in a single shade of colour with little shading or variation, but contrasting units are often used in these designs. Laminate worktops are also very popular in modern style kitchens.

Trendy kitchens

Trendy kitchen designs incorporate fashionable look and feel which focuses on maximising the character of the space.

Trendy kitchens often feature bold colours, unique materials and eye-catching design elements.

Features of the trendy-style kitchens:

Doors and drawers
Plain fronts, but moulded frames can also be used if a specific effect is sought. Designs can include customised glass or metal details.

Colours and finishes
The general idea here is to make the kitchen stand out. Various colours can be used, from simple and subdued to bright and bold - it all depends on the specific look the client wants to achieve. Satin finishes are very fashionable, but glossy finishes are also often used.

Handles
Unless handles are used to achieve a specific effect (e.g. a contrast between modern units and antique handles), handles are normally made to blend in or "disappear" completely by using fronts with integrated handles or without any handles at all.

Worktops
Stone worktops with unique patterns and textures or laminate worktops are popular choices to complement the trendy look of the kitchen.

Minimalist kitchens

Minimalist kitchen designs seek to simplify the space as much as possible. This style features clean lines and neutral colours, with a focus on function and simplicity.

The materials that complement the kitchen are often limited to a few key elements, such as wood and stone accents. Notably, decorative details are kept to a minimum.

Features of the minimalist-style kitchens

Doors and drawers
Plain and with no ornamentaion. Can include glass, aluminium or stainless steel details.

Colours and finishes
Neutral, often flat white. Matt or satin finishes are most commonly used.

Handles
Simple and elegant. Handleless fronts are a typical feature, but integrated handles can also be used.
